La petite Janet
est certainement la plus douée de tous les Jackson.
A l'heure où
son frère semble s'être perdu dans un labyrinte
de Parc d'attraction, sordideJanet explose les ventes
et a droit
à tous les hommages, dont le désormais fameux
premier MTV Icon, diffusé en mars 2001, pour ses
40 ans.
Ne nous attardons pas sur ses débuts dans les séries
TV Arnold et Willy, Fame etc. Le minois de la Janet est
tout aussi affolant lorsqu'elle pousse la chansonette.
Son premier album, Janet, déjà très
New Funk, est plutôt bien produit, et inclue
la chanson Fast Girl écrite par Jesse Jhonson, ex
guitariste de Prince !
Il aura
fallu de serieux agitateurs pour dévoiler le véritable
potentiel de la fille : ce n'est ni plus ni moins les
meilleurs producteurs
de New Funck des 90's : Jimy Jam et Terry Lewis. Ceux-là même du
groupe The
Time,
LE groupe de Prince ! Signe des temps, la plus douée
des Jackson est aspirée par le New Funk ravageur
de Minéapolis !
Control cartonne des mois durant dans tous les charts,
Rythm Nation frappe encore plus fort tant au niveau
des ventes
que du contenu et des mémorables chorégraphies
de ses clips vidéos.
Janet est un album qui poursuit la lente initiation de
Janet (aux plaisirs et à l'afirmation de sa féminité).
Velvet Rope rompt brutalement le lien avec le New Funk
pour s'enfoncer dans un Trip-Hop bruitiste pas forcément
heureux mais qui a le mérite de refaire parler
de la grande Joni Mitchel avec le sample de Till It's
Gone.
Aujjourd'hui, le corps d'ébène élancé
savoure son succès toujours au rendez-vous. Cette
fille, comme le MTV Icon et la présence camouflée
de Prince lors de la reprise de Macey Grey l'ont démontré, restera comme un
des meilleurs combatant pour le New Funk planétaire.
Et son duo avec Duggy un des meilleurs du Rap.
2005 fut son premier echec cuisant avec Bonita. That's

Janet Jackson
certainly is one of the most gifted of the Jackson Family.
Actualy, Michael Jackson is lost in the labyrinth
of Wako-Mad-Land, while Janet is at the top of the charts
and
recieves the honors she deserves. The first MTV Icon was
dedicated to her for her 40th aniversary.
The teenage Janet made prety nice apearances in the CBS
TV sitcom Good Times, and more high-profile television
work
soon
followed
in Different Strokes and Fame. But let's concentrate on
the performances. If the first LP was already a New Funk
album, with a song Fast Girl composed by Jesse Jhonson,
once Prince's guitarist, Control is loudly Purplelised!
The producers Jimy Jam and Terry Lewis from The
Time, the ultimate Prince 80's Boy's Band,are
the best New Funk makers around : Cherelle, a great anthem
(Encore!),
and they are kids of the most anti-Jackson star on earth
: Prince.
Control is a massivesuccess packed with mega hits. You
know what? The next LP will make a bigger success. Rythm
Nation is powerfull and full of meanings.
Janet is a woman,
now. Velvet Rope is a strange attempt to go deeper underground.
Trip-Hop and noisy soft-House, probably the kind of depressed
album of every artist after massive success.
All For Youis going back to the funky and Dance Music
roots. The great first MTV Icon with the secret Prince
appearance
in the Macy Gray performance shows that the girl is definitly
one of the best New Funk soldier on earth.
2005 comes with Bonita, her first dramatic failure. That's the
end?

Macy Gray est la dernière black
Soul Queen très tendance dans les lounges… Son
mérite est de prendre ses sources dans la Soul des
années 60 et directement dans l'album Lovesexy de Prince
! Son premier album est tout ce qu'il y a d'ordinaire dans
l'horizon Groove actuel, mais son premier single tient haut
la perche dans le style Diva Soul féministe ! Puis,
comment ne pas voulloir l'encourager après une performance
comme celle du MTV Icon, avec un groupe à faire pâlir
Mazarati !
Le guitariste avec la moumoutte orange et des lunettes zarbi,
c'était le p'tit Prince ! Il n'y a plus qu'à
esperer que le maître donne quelques leçons à
la gamine. Qu'elle commence d'abord par un serieux relookage
: on dirais une vraie fermière de chez Disney !
Elle travail ensuite avec Santana, sur « Shaman », avant de sortir son propre opus, « The trouble With Being Myself ». nous livre un second album en 2001 The ID. On retrouve My Nutmeg Phantasy, sur la BO de Spiderman en 2002. En 2003, elle revient avec un album complet et produit par le célébrissime Dallas Austin. Il s'intitule The Trouble With Being Myself et contient de nombreux featurings, dont celui de Beck à la guitare.
Macy Gray fait son come back en mars 2007 avec Big.
"… Life" takes
its sources in the '60s Stax singles and Prince Lovesexy
period (complicated melodies and heavy trumpets), and sounds like
a crazy jam session. The problem is, however, that there
aren't
enough songs to hold it together.
On cuts like "Sex-o-matic Venus Freak and I Can't Wait to
Meetchu, Gray offers a strange cacophony made of bass and
trumpets jams. Eventually, Life settles down to deliver some
actual music Still, a dramatic number about waiting for
a lover, and A Moment to Myself, is nice. There just isn't
anything to distinguish them from anything else that can be
found around.
The record sounds like a mess, Life never takes off, regardless
of its interesting take on old-school soul. Gray has great
potentials— the MTV Icon performance was a blasting princey
bomb, but the only thing one can hope is that she learns some
tricks from the Artist.
The Id, must answer to this. Over the course of Gray's second album, the novelty of her vocal style is somewhat tempered by her limited range. The album's many eclectic singles stand strong. Gray's album also benefits from a host of R&B and hip-hop guests, including Slick Rick, Sunshine Anderson, Angie Stone, Mos Def, and most notably Erykah Badu, who supports Gray on "Sweet Baby," a moving uptempo ballad that easily rivals the best that '70s soul has to offer. Macy Gray continues to wave her R&B freak flag while digging deep in the trenches of the vividly real
Big is helmed by Black Eyed Peas frontman, will.i.am, and features collaborations with Fergie, Justin Timberlake and Natalie Cole.

L'un des pilliers
du Funk électronique est décédé en 2004.
Des 60's aux 70's post disco, Rick James, James Ambrose Jhonson
de son vrai nom, avait tout l'attiraille du mauvais garçon
P-Funk : look sky "puputte" et son froidement Funk-Rock.
Bercé
par le Jazz, le Rock & Roll rétro, Rick se laisse
attraper par le Funk de Funkadelic, et aidé de quelques
drogues douces (qu'il appel Mary Jane), enchaine quelques
standards connus désormais de tous… Même
Thriller est inspiré d'un de ses tubes (la basse
de Give It To Me Baby).
Quand Prince était au sommet avec Purple Rain,
une curieuse haine tenace regnait entre les deux vilains
garçons.
Prince ne l'a jamais invité nul part, à croire
qu'il trouve répugnant de semer des idées
géniales
sur un sol si aride… Rick James est pourtant certainement
l'un de ceux qui a le moins vollé sa place sur la
Guestlist…

pillar
of Pfunk Music, he died in 2004. He's the prototype of nasty
funky man : sex, drug and electronic funk!His famous
LP Street
Songs
in 1981 marked the peak of his career. Two big hits Give
It To Me Baby reaching number 1 R&B and Super
Freak
making it to number 3 R&B. Quincy Jones himself has
admitted that he was inspired by the bass line in Give
It To Me Baby when making Thriller for Michael
Jackson. Super Freak climbed
to number 16 on the pop chart and must be considered his
biggest cross over hit. It is
included
on most 70's compilations. The dust was wiped off it in 1991
when M.C. Hammer looped it on his largest selling hit U
Can't Touch This. Despite Prince doesn't seem to apreciate
the man, Rick James deserves he's place on the guestlist
as a great precursor of electronic Funk.
