Lancé par Trent Reznor du groupe Métal Nine inch nails et issu de la scène métal de Floride, Marilyn Manson est la bête noire de l'amérique bien pensante. Provocateur extrêmiste (imagerie SM, nécromantique et transgenre !) ses chansons véhiculent des idées dérangantes. Dans sa musique, clips, concerts, CDs, Marilyn Manson torture à l'infini le gothique. Ce type est loin d'être un guignol hardcore. Il est réèllement "Hardcore"…
Marilyn Manson doit son nom à la manson family, la secte de charles manson. En 1992, Trent reznor créé son studio d'enregistrement dans la maison où, en 1969, le commando de charles manson assassina Sharon Tate et ses amis… En 1994, lors d'un concert de NIN, Manson débarque en déchirant la bible !
29 mai 1997 escale au Bataclan, à paris, pour un show mémorable où Manson feint de se briser une bouteille de vin sur la tête et quitte la scène au bout de 45 minutes…
C'est le single "Sweet Dreams" - une reprise des Euritmics -qui, grâce à MTV, fait connaître Manson dans le monde entier. En 1996 sort "antichrist superstar" qui consacre Manson au rang de star rock’n roll ; l'album entre en 3ème place du billboard américain. Mechanical Animals, son meilleur album, est un classique du Rock avec même une référence au gospel ! BO de films commerciaux, tournées à trainées de poudre, l'artiste le plus destroy du Rock and Roll, à défaut d'avoir changé son nom par un symbole, a réussi la prouesse d'être un véritable térroriste musical !
