Taxi-Girl a été le premier groupe français de New Wave à
faire un tube digne de ce nom avec « Cherchez Le Garçon ». Un tube génial qu'on retrouve actuellement sur des compilations style "années 80".
A l'époque, Taxi Girl avait pour manager l'ambitieux Alexis, aux idées commerciales…
Taxi Girl fut le premier à obtenir d'une maison de disques une avance faramineuse dans le but de monter son propre label, Man'Kin. Un label qui leur permit outre de sortir «Seppuku », leur second album. Taxi Girl est passé de cinq /six membres à deux vers la fin du groupe.
Taxi Girl était un "groupe de lycée". Le Rose Bonbon (futur Boy puis futur parking!) était le lieu Rock à la mode. Taxi Girl y a joué une trentaine de fois en un an. A l'époque fallait sonner comme le groupe Téléphone. Taxi Girl était vraiment trop "hors clans", et se faisait jeter de toutes les soirées un peu branchées. Au bout d'un an et demi, alors que le groupe allait imploser, le groupe a pu sortir «Mannequin ».
"Cherchez le garçon", sort en 1980, inclue les deux premiers tubes et "Cette fille est une erreur". En 1981, "Seppuku" sort aussi en angleterre. Des membres des Stranglers ont collaboré à l'album : JJ Burnel, bassiste, produisit l'album et fit quelques choeurs. Jet Black à la batterie sous le nom de Jet Le Noir. Steve Churchyard était l'ingénieur du son. Daniel Darc avouera en 1989 avoir détesté le travail de Burnel sur "Seppuku"…
Le magazine Actuel (équivalent 80's de Nova Magazine) avait lancé la mode des «modernes » et rangeait Taxi Girl dedans. Acoquiné de JJ Burner des Stranglers fassiné d'occultisme, Daniel Darc se fait sordide précurseur de Marylin Manson ? Dans le premier vrai album de Taxi Girl, on trouve vierges rouges, de sacrifices humains, de meurtres de la tribu Manson, etc... Dés 1979, Daniel Darc, devant l'indifférence du public, se tailladait les veines crânement ! Puis il a été taxé de facho à cause des costumes noir et rouges. "Pour nous c'était juste une allusion à Kraftwerk (les ancêtres allemands de la techno). Ce qui n'a rien arrangé c'est un concert en première partie des Talking Heads où on avait mis derrière nous un tableau de Dali représentant Hitler avec les moustaches du peintre…En fait nous étions surtout branchés par les détournements culturels. Ca nous a suivi tout le temps", déplore Mirwais. «Je pense qu'on a été le dernier groupe français « destroy ». On avait tout pour réussir : une musique intéressante, mélodique, et suffisamment commerciale. Mais il y avait un décalage : Alexis essayait à tout prix de nous coller une image saine et ça ne nous correspondait pas du tout. »
Trois personnalités ont survécues à l'après Taxi Girl : Daniel Darc (chant - alias Daniel Rozoum , alias Vivian Vog), Laurent Sinclair (claviers) et Mirwais Stass (guitare), les autres ont disparus. Daniel a eu une véritable déscente aux enfers: ado, je l'ai croisé un jour sur les quais de Barbes complètement paumé ou stone !
Entre 1984 et 1986, Daniel et Mirwais sortirent trois titres sous le nom de Taxi-Girl : "Paris", "Nous sommes jeunes, nous sommes fiers", and "Aussi belle qu'une balle". j'adore le percutant "Paris", dans la continuité destroy, dont les textes sont térriblement contemporains. Daniel Darc a enregistré "La ville", en 1989, suivi d'un album, "Nijinski".
Laurent Sinclair a enregistré "Devant le miroir", produit par JJ Burnel en 1986.
Mirwais, moitié Afghan/italien, est de ceux qui sont passé de l'underground à la dance commerciale, en produisant certains titres de l'album de Madonna, "Music" en 2000. Il avait également produit l'album de sa copine, sorti sous le nom de Juliette et les indépendants et a produit des albums de techno, dont "Production".
Comme quoi le talent d'un des meilleurs groupes français ne saurait être jeté totalement aux oubliettes. Taxi Girl a un son indémodable et un désenchantement urbain toujours d'actualité.

Taxi Girl was the first French New Wave group to have a big hit with "Seek the Boy" in 1980.
At the time, Taxi Girl had the ambitious Alexis as manager. An english version of their second album 'Seppuku' was recorded. 6 of those 9 songs can now be found on the CD version of 'Seppuku' which was released by the label New Rose in 1988. The 3 left songs were released one year later on a compilation that includes also the 5 songs from 'Cette fille est une erreur', 2 live recordings and some rare songs and covers.

Taxi Girl was the first band to obtain from a record company an amazing advance to create their own label: "Man' Kin". The original band in 1979/1980 : Mirwais Ahmazaï (alias Mirwaïs Stass), Pierre Wolfsohn, Laurent Sinclair and Daniel Rozoum (alias Daniel Darc, alias Vivian Vog) Taxi Girl had five/six members and only two at the end of the band.
Taxi Girl was a "college band". The "Rose Bonbon" (Pink Candy) was the fashion Rock place. Taxi Girl played there about thirty times in one year. At the time it was necessary to sound like the #1 french rock band: Telephone. Taxi Girl really was "out of clans". Daniel Darc, well before Marylin Manson, was freaky in 1979 when he cuted his during a concert! Along with JJ Burner, from the Stranglers, he had dark imagery full of red virgins, human sacrifices, murders of the Manson tribe…At the end of one year and half, the group could release "Mannequin" which was a big hit in 1980, then the electro masterpiece "Seek the Boy".
The group was associated to the neo-romanticism. Then it was taxed with fachism because of the black and red suits. "For us it was right an allusion to Kraftwerk (the German ancestors of Techno music). In a concert of Talking Heads we had put behind us a picture of Dali representing Hitler with the moustache of the painter… In fact, we were especially connected by the cultural diversions. But the reputation followed us all the time, without even stop"complains Mirwais. "I think that we were the last - not punk but" destroy " - french group with" the self-destroying " attitude. We had interesting ideas, melody, and sufficiently commercial music. But there was a shift: Alexis, our manager tried to stick a sane image to us and that did not correspond to the group at all".
Three personalities survived after Taxi Girl: Daniel Darc (singer), Laurent Sinclair (keyboards) and Mirwais Stass (guitar), the others disappeared. Daniel had his way through hell: I crossed him one day on the quays of Barbes station, he was completely stoned!
Between 1984 and 1986, three other singles were released by Daniel and Mirwais under the name of Taxi-Girl : 'Paris', 'Nous sommes jeunes, nous sommes fiers', and 'Aussi belle qu'une balle'.
I adore "Paris" , lyrics are very contemporary. Daniel Darc recorded a single, 'La Ville' in 1989, followed by a solo album, 'Nijinski'.
Mirwais, Afghan/italien half, is those which began underground to end commercial techno producer, by producing tracks for Madona's "Music" album. The talent of one of the best French groups could not be completely thrown away like that. Taxi Girl still has an upfront sound and an urban sadness that everyone of us know.
